The Combrailles is made up of 99 communes, situated in the north west of the Puy-de-Dôme in the heart of the Auvergne: - Consisting of high granite plateaus which were torn up by volcanic activity cutting out the gorges of the Sioule. This river truly is the backbone of this countryside, bordered by the Puy Chain, Mont Dore and the plateau of Limousin.
The Combrailles offers visitors, especially nature lovers, very different landscapes : Between hedgerows and high plateaus, deep gorges and winding menders, large wooded areas with the volcanoes as a backdrop, the contrasts in the countryside are striking and many places are still untouched.
